Tracking Rooms
Tracking sessions of all sizes are comfortably accommodated within The Lodge. Located immediately to the right of the control room, the main tracking space offers an expansive, acoustically tailored environment built to capture full live ensembles with natural depth and open sound.
For focused isolation, a secondary vocal booth is accessible directly from the control room, allowing for seamless communication and line-of-sight during critical tracking passes.
Isolation Rooms
The Lodge features a wide array of flexible isolation configurations to suit any recording approach. A dedicated piano room houses a Yamaha C-7 grand piano within its own spacious acoustic environment.
Two additional main-floor isolation spaces provide clear separation for vocalists and instrumentalists, while guitar and bass amplifiers are routinely baffled on the lower level to maximize available room and line-of-sight across the upper floor.
Designed for maximum adaptability, the Barefoot Studio stands as the most versatile environment at Dark Horse Recording. With a fully modular hardware architecture where no equipment is anchored down, the room effortlessly reconfigures to suit any phase of production, from multi-mic tracking and intricate overdubs to precision editing and full-scale mixing.
Engineers can draw directly from the studio’s outboard gear, seamlessly patch in their own mobile rigs, or run a hybrid system tailored to the session. This acoustic and technical environment has been proven on multi-platinum projects, serving as the vocal room of choice for iconic artists including The Mavericks, Michael W. Smith, Wynonna Judd, Jon Anderson (Yes), and Ann Wilson (Heart).
Beyond its reputation for capturing pristine vocal tracks and acoustic overdubs, the Barefoot Studio remains a primary mixing destination preferred by top-tier producers and mix engineers for its critical monitoring accuracy and tactile efficiency.
Modular Workspace Design
Adaptability with zero anchored gear, easily reconfigure for multi mic tracking, overdubs, editing, and mixing.
Flexible Options
Direct access to the studio elite outboard gear, smooth integration of guest mobile rigs, or a hybrid setup.
Proven Track Record
Trusted on multi platinum projects as the vocal room of choice for legendary artists and a preferred mix destination for top tier engineers.

Formidable Standards
Focusing on smaller projects and flexibility, the Barefoot studio gear is classic. Plenty of microphone preamps to record the project or do overdubs.
Editing and mixing is also a staple. Many producers and engineers bring in their personal outboard gear in as it can be easily integrated into the Barefoot for a powerful hybrid configuration.
Primarily used for overdubs and mixing, this is your personal space. As is standard with all the Dark Horse studios, when using Studio Z, you will have access to our entire microphone collection, as well as any specific pre-amps, compressors etc.
Patching in personal gear is not a problem as there is plenty of inputs and outputs offered for a personal hybrid setup.
Located on the first floor of the studio building, Studio Z is both comfortable and private.
